The first set in the list of LEGO Indiana Jones sets released in 2009 is Shanghai Chase. RRP: $29.99 Year Released: 2009 Pieces: 244 Minifigures: 5 Out of all of the Indiana Jones LEGO sets, this one potentially carries the most playability, with so many different scenes to act out for fans of the movie. Here we see various booby traps and battles breaking out in the hallways of the temple as Indy and Mutt try to get to the Crystal Skull. The core of the set is of course the buildable temple, which is a large model packed with fun scenes throughout. All four of the skeletons are unique to this set and don’t appear elsewhere. This set had 929 pieces and a large count of 10 minifigures, including three Akator Skeletons, Indiana Jones, Irina Spalko, Mutt Williams, a Russian Guard, two Ugha Warriors, and a unique Skeleton complete with armor. It is the largest set that was released in any of the initial waves of LEGO Indiana Jones and was seen by many as a crucial set to own for any collector of the series. This set depicts the all-important temple which acted as the location for some of the turning points of the movie, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The flagship set in the 2008 list of LEGO Indiana Jones sets is Temple of the Crystal Skull. Also included is a golden treasure chest, a horse, and other accessories. A notable component here is the mounted machine gun on the back of the jeep, which once again is not something we often see in LEGO sets, which typically shy away from scenes that depict too much violence. The core focus of the set is the German truck and the jeep which are both well designed and detailed. It includes the minifigs for Indiana Jones and three German Soldiers, which is a welcome addition to the set, as it is rare to find this many military-based minifigures in a LEGO set. With 272 pieces and 4 minifigures, Race for the Stolen Treasure is a highly-reviewed set and was much appreciated by the fans. This set was released in January 2008 and retired in July 2009, which gave it a shelf life of a year and a half. LEGO Race for the Stolen Treasure is a set from Raiders of the Lost Ark that depicts the fast-paced chase scene for the Ark between Indy and the enemy soldiers.
